Values & Approach
No sweets it won’t end well for anyone - they are allowed treats after school on Fridays. Be ready to give them snacks after school, fruit, slice of toast etc
Our approach to discipline is based on patience, kindness, and positive guidance. We believe children should be treated with respect at all times. Shouting, anger, or punishment is not acceptable. Children will naturally experience big emotions and challenging moments, and it is our role to remain calm, supportive, and in control while helping them learn appropriate behaviour. Any concerns or incidents will always be discussed openly with parents.
Family Story
About the family
About Our Family 👨👩👧👦 We are a family of 4 living in Rathmines, Dublin 6 — Mum (Christine), Dad (David), Rhys (9) and Ava (6). 😊 Both Rhys and Ava attend an Irish/Gaeilge-speaking school, so it is very important that the minder can speak and read basic Irish/Gaeilge 🇮🇪 in order to help with homework and communicate comfortably with the children around schoolwork. For the past 3 years we have been lucky to have wonderful childminders who rotated days during the week while completing college. They are now graduating and moving into full-time careers, so we are looking for a new childminder (or childminders) to join our family from September onwards. Ideally, the minder would: ✨ * 🇮🇪 Be able to speak and read basic Irish/Gaeilge (very important for homework support) * 🚗 Drive and have access to a car (helpful but not essential) * 📍 Live in or close to Dublin 6 * ❤️ Be kind, patient, trustworthy, responsible and energetic * 🧠 Have a basic understanding of neurodiversity and respond to children with empathy and patience * 👧👦 Genuinely enjoy spending time with children * 👀 Be attentive, safety-conscious and actively engaged with the children The children need to be collected from school at 2:30pm. The school is within walking distance of our home. Afternoons would usually involve: * Bringing the children home * Helping with Irish homework * Playtime or relaxing after school * Occasionally bringing them to pre-arranged activities * Preparing a simple dinner and light tidying Some flexibility for extra hours and school holidays would also be appreciated. A little about the children 💛 Ava is full of personality (“spicy” at times 🌶️!) and can sometimes come home from school tired and emotional. We are looking for someone calm, patient and understanding who can support her with kindness and reassurance rather than harsh discipline. Rhys is gentle, sweet and very easygoing. He loves video games and is generally very compliant. Both children can become distracted easily, so we are looking for someone safety-conscious and attentive — especially when cycling or walking home, crossing roads, or playing in the park/playground. We would love someone hands-on and engaged with the children rather than sitting on their phone while supervising. And finally… Ruby! 🐶 We also have a beautiful big Goldendoodle called Ruby, who is basically a giant blonde teddy bear! She is extremely friendly and cuddly. It would be lovely if the minder would occasionally bring her along for school collection to give her some exercise and company during the day. Additional Information ✨ One current minder finishes at the end of March and another in May, so ideally we would love to arrange a handover/trial period while they are still with us. Garda vetting and previous childcare experience (summer camps, babysitting, coaching, etc.) would be a big plus.
Home & neighbourhood
🏡 We live in a small house beside Belgrave Square Park 🌳 in Rathmines and close to the Swan Shopping Centre 🛍️, so there is always plenty to do nearby. It’s a busy area, so road safety 🚦 and careful supervision around cars and crossings are very important. There are lots of families and friends within walking distance 👨👩👧👦, and during the summer ☀️ many children gather in the park to play after school, creating a lovely community atmosphere 💛.

Good to know
💛 Someone warm, kind and nurturing who reacts calmly to tantrums and big emotions 🌈. We would love someone who understands that challenging moments are best handled with patience, soft words 🫶, deep breaths 🌸, a comforting hug 🤗, gentle distraction 🎨📚 and helping the child regulate their nervous system in a calm and supportive way, rather than through shouting or punishment. ✨
