Job Description

We need someone for 3 or 4 hours at a time once a week to begin with and then would increase to twice a week when Gretchen is ready. Some days would be hanging out at home staying nearby in case she needs snacks or a nappy change. Other days might be trips out to the shop or on the train. It would be guided by her mood and how comfortable you felt. I can train pretty much anyone in how to best look after Gretchen and understand her needs but if you have experience with Autistic people e.g. a family member or friend then that’s a real plus. Gretchen is minimally verbal but for those who spend time around her and build a connection she is actually very easy to understand most of the time.

Our Family Routine

In the morning Gretchen has a nappy change and breakfast in her room then she plays while I work. In the afternoon I usually take her out, could be the beach, a trip to a different town on the train, or just to the shops. When we get back she will have another nappy change and some food, and play in her room or the garden. In the evening we have family time and dinner.

Our Home Environment

When at home Gretchen is usually in her room or out in our spacious garden. I tend to work from the living room. A minder could spend time either directly with Gretchen if she invited it or they could be in our kitchen at the island, sitting out in the garden or in the spare room/office. G is very independent so you would not be expected to be right by her side at every second. We have plenty of space for you to sit comfortably while keeping an eye on her. Our house is clean (mostly) and light, and we are very relaxed so you can make yourself at home here!

Our Expectations

For us, less is more! We would like someone with very relaxed energy who felt confident to just slowly let Gretchen warm to your presence. She needs supervision and occasional assistance but she doesn’t need to be told what to do or given lots if activities. Once she has made a connection with you we would hope you could take her out on fun trips and engage in play when invited but it’s important to understand this will take time and not rush it. You will need to be good at Co-regulation and a natural gentle parenter.

Qualifications and Experience

Would love someone that had personal experience with Autistic people. Not necessarily special needs qualifications, just have known someone Autistic and have an understanding of what that means. Am willing to train as G’s needs are unique to her so it’s more about confidence and a willingness to learn.

Our Budget

Can pay €16-€20 per hour

Additional Information

We have a small dog named Sausage. She’s very friendly once she knows you but will bark when she first meets you. Also Gretchen is very smell and noise sensitive so you may need to adapt things like perfume or speaking loudly to help with this.
